- Fire is a motif of Katniss. Her first dress was a one with fire on it and it also can ressemble her attitude and skill with archery.
- Defiance is another motif in The Hunger Games because of how Katniss acts with some of the rules in Panem and also what its population expects to see.
- Hunting is the last motif. Katniss uses her hunting skills to provide for the family. Hunting is how she kept her family alive and also how she kept herself alive during the games. She is also faced with the difference with hunting and how killing a human is much more traumatizing then animals.

- The mocking jay is a symbol that represents defiance. The bird was initially supposed to spy on the districts, but also showed the bad of the nation. The mocking jay that Katniss receives from Madge represents resistance. The bird also represents the link between Katniss and Rue and how they communicate. The Mocking Jay mostly symbolizes the desire to rebel the capitol.
- Katniss's dresses that Cinna gives her symbolize her spirit. The dresses serve as how she has has an inner fire or heat as mentioned in the book.
